San Jose Creek Flood Channel

Flood Control and Fish Passage Improvements

Goleta, CA

Built 2015

Old town Goleta sits within the 100-year floodplain. As large storms come into the region San Jose creek has historically caused flooding and damage to the area. Bengal Engineering’s design proposed improving the channel that spanned 3,200-feet long wedged between Kellogg road and State Highway 217. Because of the large-scale nature of the project, we thought outside the box to accelerate construction. This unique construction approach consisted of hundreds of prefab wall panels that slid in between piles. This method drastically accelerated construction of this massive project and increasing quality control. Bengal not only dealt with complex site constraints but also received approval for the FEMA Condition of letter map revision to address the floodplain reduction.
