SANTA MONICA DEBRIS BASIN

GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION

Carpinteria , CA

Completed 2018

Santa Monica debris basin is considered the jewel of the south coast flood protection facilities. Built in 1972 the facility was stressed to its limits Jan. 9 2018 with the debris flow that affected Santa Barbara County. From what we have been told, the debris basin filled with over 180k cubic yards of mud rocks and trees in an hour. After cleanup post evaluation took place in 3 stages. The third stage, Bengal Engineering evaluated the bridge capacity and inspected for damages that may have been sustained. We also evaluated operational improvements to aide Santa Barbara County for future use.
